An impromptu rendition of Celine Dion’s A New Day over a hearty Sunday morning breakfast with her family was Sevana’s first validation as a singing talent. She was eight then and the thrill of belting those first few notes struck a chord with her — literally.

She wanted to do this onstage.

Born in Westmoreland, Jamaica and pulling inspiration from the grassy clearings, lush countryside and azure skies, Sevana (a name reminiscent of her hometown Savannah-La-Mar), all the while, dreamt of a bigger platform than just her dining table from which to share her brand of melodies. It’d be a few years before this ’90s baby would get the opportunity to do that, at least semi-professionally, as an entrant in the popular Digicel Rising Star talent competition in 2008 and member of the fledgling girl group SLR, which placed third that year.

Recording her first track at age 17, her formative years are well behind her and Sevana is confident in them woman-artiste into whom she’s evolved. Her evolution has allowed her to embrace her musical influences like Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Anita Baker, Prince, Coldplay and Bob Marley, carving out a styling all her own. She’s a fusion of worlds and a force to be reckoned with; it’s the fuel that has led to the debut single “Chant It”, produced by Phillip “Winta” James. This track is a bluesy, fragile ode to love’s awakening.

In her performance on the Digicel stage at Reggae Sumfest 2014 it was very clear that Sevana was already a very accomplished performer as she engaged the crowd with confidence displaying her craft gracefully and competently. It’s not an easy task to launch a musical career and stand out in the crowd and to make an impact. This is however what Sevana is setting out to do with her single, “Bit Too Shy.” The single, produced by ace producer Phillip “Winta” James and Oje Ollivierre aka Protoje is all set to bring attention to her immense talent.

Sevana has been pleased with the sound achieved on her new single and feels that working with Winta (Overstand Entertainment) and Protoje (In.Digg.Nation Collective) was the best experience she could have asked for. Described as a ‘graceful vocalist extraordinaire’ by Reggaeville, Sevana was featured on the tracks 3 and 7 off the Ancient Future Album; “Sudden Flight”, co-written by her and featured on BBC Xtra’s playlist as well as maintained #1 position on the Switzerland Reggae Charts.

In July 2015, Sevana joined Protoje on his Ancient Future Tour across Europe where she got a feel of life on the road as a performer as well as great exposure to prepare her for the dynamic and rewarding life as a musician. She also joined Protoje & the Indiggnation in Trinidad and Tobago for two of the region’s largest shows.

Sevana’s self-titled EP was released in July 2016 which “tells honest stories from her childhood, her feelings about her family to letting go in the dance on a Weekend night;” to showcase her dimensions as an artiste. Following the release of her EP, she has toured and performed in Europe with her own band at festivals such as the Reggae Geel, Reggae Jam and Blue Balls as well as opened for Protoje on his UK Tour in 2017.
